You have questions, we have answers. If your question hasn’t been answered here, feel free to reach out to our staff for more help!
Q: Who can play?
A: FREAK welcomes anyone aged 8+! We have a selection of games and experiences for everyone, and offer an accessible and inclusive environment.
Q: How is FREAK inclusive and accessible?
A: We proudly offer an All Abilities discount to aid people with disability in exploring the virtual world. You can find out more information about our All Abilities discount here: All Abilities at FREAK.
We are also proudly supportive of people from all walks of life, regardless of gender, orientation, culture, religion or background. In fact, many of our staff identify as part of the LGBTIAQ+ community! FREAK venues are a safe space.
Q: When should we arrive?
A: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled game time. This will give you time to complete our Waiver if you haven’t done so already, and get you geared up to play on time!
Q: What should we wear?
A: Comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes to easily move around in. You don’t need to bring gym clothes, but we also suggest avoiding the tux!
Q: What if I wear glasses?
A: Don’t sweat it! Our headsets are fully adjustable and have space to fit glasses on the inside. As an added bonus, we’ve found many people find it easier to see the virtual world without their glasses. Try both and see what works best for you!
Q: Can I play with my friends?
A: Super can! In fact, VR is more fun with friends, so bring along the whole squad! We’ve got a wide variety of both competitive (PvP / Player vs Player) and cooperative games, so check out our full suite of games to see what tickles your interest. Team up or go head to head with your mates or family in some exciting, adrenaline-pumping Virtual Reality games!
Q: How many people can play at once?
A: Each game has different player limits, so be sure to check the website or ask our Game Masters for specific details. Our Free Roam Arena has a maximum of 4 players, with our Pods holding up to a maximum of 6 players.
Q: What about large groups?
A: Our venues can accommodate up to 24 guests at once, rotating through the whole party in smaller groups, usually of 3 or 4. Your assigned Game Master will guide the whole squad through the rotation on the day of your event.
Q: Do you sell gift vouchers? When do they expire?
A: Absolutely! We sell one Choose Your Value gift card, giving you the option to pre-pay anything from $50 to $9,001 and hand it over to someone special. Many of our limited-time seasonal deals come with gift vouchers, too! Standard gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from date of purchase, with seasonal vouchers being valid for 1 year. Be sure to check the T&C’s for each seasonal deal for exact dates (or click here).
Q: What do I do if I need to cancel or reschedule?
A: While we have a strict no cancellation policy, you are more than welcome to reschedule at any time (with at least 48 hours’ notice).
Q: Where can I park?
A: FREAK Penrith is located at iFLY Downunder, which has hundreds of free parking spaces surrounding the building. FREAK Bondi, Macquarie and Surfers Paradise are all located within shopping malls, so you’ll be able to find a space at their associated parking garages.
Q: Do you record our game sessions? What if we don’t want photos taken?
A: Our staff do take photos on their personal devices that is then sent to our Marketing team for use on social media. However, we understand not everybody wants their photo taken. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, let our staff know, and we won’t do it, no hard feelings!
We also don’t usually record in-game footage, but our staff are more than happy to do so if you want! Just make sure you bring a USB or hard drive to take a copy with you, as we don’t have storage devices to sell or give away.
Q: Can I bring food and drink?
A: You can! Just make sure no food or drink enters the play area, and that kids wash and dry their hands before using the equipment. Water, oil, crumbs and other gamer gunk can damage the sensitive tech!
Q: Do you clean the headsets?
A: Yes, very thoroughly, before and after every session, no matter what. We use sterile, medical-grade isopropyl alcohol wipes to clean the facial padding, and ensure each controller and headset is clean and sanitised before handing it to the next player. If you have concerns about the cleanliness of your device, please let a staff member know, and they’ll be happy to give it another once-over!

What can I say – what an amazing experience I had today and how appreciative I was to see how much effort and dedication David put in to tell us about the games and our options!
My wife was in a situation where she was scared about one of the zombies coming at her from the amazing quality of the experience. It’s easy to forget you’re in a virtual reality. he came straight to her to made sure she was ok.
I really appreciate that. I highly recommend freak in Penrith and go see David and he will make sure your experience is only but the best.
We had a blast doing our first virtual reality escape room with @freakvirtualreality in Penrith! It was an Ancient Egypt / Assassins Creed style room and we were out in 35 minutes! 💪
Our host David was great and explained the game well, after we got the hang of it we flew through the room!
Can’t wait to go back and try the other rooms (and maybe some VR laser tag)! 🔫 🔫
Absolutely fun experience. They have different VR experiences to choose from where you can do a free-roam type of VR or a static one. We did Corsair’s Curse which is a free-roam experience with 4 players and recommend it. We want to try the others now!
I surprised my partner for a date experience here and was very pleased with the outcome! Despite some minor technical issues on my end we did an escape room together which really tested our relationship! Thanks to David at Freak VR in Macquarie Park who was very accommodating and provided us with the best experience, not forgetting to capture the moments I strayed too far from the game field! Would definitely love to try the other experiences and would recommend it for anyone wanting a different date experience/a fun day out with friends!
